Image titled “1925 Indian Congress, Spokane, Washington.” This, one of several images taken of that year’s very first meeting of the National Congress of the American Indian, shows the event as held at Glover Field in Spokane’s Peaceful Valley neighborhood. The gathering and locale were particularly appropriate, given the fact that tribes from all over the Columbia region had gathered near the Falls each year for the salmon harvest, dating back thousands of years.
